Naked Ladies Naked Ladies Naked Ladies. Coloring Book

Seattle: Real Comet Press, 1984. 1st Edition. Folio, publisher's stapled stiff illustrated paper wraps.

First edition of renegade cartoonist, author, and educator Lynda Barry’s coloring book. Known for her whimsical weekly comic strips, which were published in alternative zines across the US in the 1970s and 80s, Barry has since written plays, novels, and instructional cartooning books while leading workshops on drawing, writing, and creativity in schools, universities, and prisons. Her first independent publication, Naked Ladies includes fifty-two full-page black ink drawings of nude women designed as playing cards, a running narrative on the initial confrontations with sex and sexuality as a child and teenager, and a centerfold in color designed to be cut up to make your own playing cards. Inspired by nudie playing cards she purchased for her little brother that lacked body diversity, Barry was apprehensive the book would receive criticism from conservatives (for nudity) and lesbian separatists (for sexism), but it was generally positively received and earned endorsements from both Ms. and Screw magazines. Illustrated in black-and-white with centerfold fold-out in color. Minor toning and fingersoiling to textblock, minor edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #9623
