Manolo. Le Petit Espagnol

Paris: Fernand Nathan, 1971. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's glossy photo-illustrated paper-covered boards.

Spanish installment of French photojournalist Dominique Darbois’s "Children of the World" series, following the day in the life of Manolo as he explores the folkways of the Albaicín neighborhood of his native city Granada. Established in 1952 by Parisian publisher Nathan Fernand, the series was published from the 1950s to the 70s, with each volume following the peregrinations of a curious child, from a variety of cultures and nationalities. Most books in the series were created in collaboration with ethnologist Francois Mazière, and were praised for their modernist-inspired assemblage layouts. Illustrated with black-and-white photos and color cut-outs. Designed by art conservator Gloria de Herrera, who worked closely with Matisse's cutouts after his death. With a list of other titles in the series in the rear. Text in French. No dust jacket, as issued. Minor rubbing to spine-ends. Near fine. Item #8439
