Jacques Villon, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Marcel Duchamp

New York: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1957. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps.

Catalog published in conjunction with a major exhibition of work by the fraternal art trio held at the Guggenheim in 1957. While Marcel was undoubtedly the star of the Duchamps, Raymond Duchamp-Villon and Jacques Villon (who renamed themselves in tribute to the 15th-century poet) were also key modern art innovators. Curated by art critic and Guggenheim director James Johnson Sweeney, the show presented a selection of sculptures and paintings by each brother. The present catalog comprises reproductions of the showcased works alongside text contributions by Sweeney, "Pope of Surrealism" André Breton, artist Walter Pach, the Duchamp siblings, and others. Illustrated in black-and-white with some plates in color and mounted; with biographical notes and selected bibliography. Some soiling to wraps. Very good. Item #7272
