Avalanche. Winter 1971. Number Two

New York: Kineticism Press, 1971. Quarto, publisher’s stapled stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.

Winter 1971 issue of Avalanche, the groundbreaking New York arts magazine, featuring Bruce Nauman on the cover. Founded by Willoughby Sharp and Liza Béar in 1970, Avalanche (1970-76)  became one of the most influential publications of the Conceptual and Postminimalist movements, rejecting conventional art criticism in favor of extensive interviews, photographic documentation, and original contributions. This second issue features conversations with Nauman and Terry Fox, a retrospective of Klaus Rinke, documentation of works by Richard Serra and Dennis Oppenheim, and contributions by Vito Acconci, William Wegman, Bruce McLean, and others. Also included is material on the experimental artist-run space 112 Greene Street and a discussion between Acconci, Fox, and Oppenheim. Illustrated in black-and-white. Some rubbing and creasing to wraps. Very good. Item #13623
