Kiki de Montparnasse
New York: Kiki de Montparnasse, 2006. 24 loose photo-illustrated cardstock plates (each measuring 9" x 12") and original printed invitation letter housed in original black cardstock envelope lettered in white.
Lookbook and invitation letter for the 2006 opening of the Kiki de Montparnasse flagship boutique in SoHo. Established by designer Jennifer Zuccarini and her partner at the time Andrew Pollard, the luxury lingerie and lifestyle brand was designed to bridge the gap between high fashion and sensual self-expression with items crafted from high-end silks and laces sourced from European mills. The company is named after Alice Prin, famously known as "Kiki de Montparnasse," a French artist's muse, cabaret singer, painter, and memoirist who modeled for artists such as Man Ray, Modigliani, and Picasso. Zuccarini and Pollard marketed the shop not just as a retail store but an "experiential mecca" for intimacy in a refined environment where customers could browse without the shame associated with "adult" stores. Over the course of a decade KikiDM built an extensive celebrity clientele, transforming from a specialty lingerie shop to a celebrated luxury brand carried by major fashion retailers. This catalog showcases the debut collection on a series of oversized cards housed in an original cardstock envelope, and includes a letter of invitation (addressed here to art critic, curator, and art historian Robert Pincus-Witten). Illustrated with color and black-and-white photos on twenty-four loose cards, with one card a photo-index with garment details and prices. Cards fine, light wear to original envelope. Rare.
