Bettie Page. Queen of Hearts
Milwaukie, OR: Dark Horse Books, 1995. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's stiff illustrated paper wraps.
First trade edition of historian and artist Jim Silke’s chronicle of the glamour art movement, centering on the defining icon of the genre, model Bettie Page. An aspiring actress from Nashville, Page began modeling in 1950 when an amateur photographer discovered her walking on the Coney Island beach. Her career quickly took off; she became one of the most photographed pin-up models of the postwar era. She retired from modeling in 1958 and became an evangelical Christian, working for a time for Billy Graham. This book details her massive influence on pop culture over the course of her brief career, with text by Silke alongside dozens of photos of Page, including previously unpublished shots by Bunny Yeager, along with dozens of drawings of her and reproductions of pop culture imagery inspired by and influential upon her. Illustrated in color and black-and-white; with acknowledgments and a bibliography. First printing with complete number row to copyright page. Issued simultaneously with a hardcover limited edition. Moderate rubbing, creasing and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #13498
