Signed limited edition photo portfolio by self-taught photographer Les Krims. A conservative whose work targets "leftist academic dogma," Krims is known as an influential if controversial practitioner of the medium, famous for his use of dark humor and meticulously staged tableaux. Deerslayers was captured while the Buffalo-based photographer was traveling to voluntary "deer check stations" in New York state, where state conservationists examine deer carcasses to oversee the local population's health. Krims had the hunters arrange themselves next to their trucks and cars with their quarry to depict the killer and killed as "outsider" sculptures and potential performance art pieces. Illustrated with twenty-three loose sepia plates; with introductory essay by photo critic Alex J. Sweetman folded, signed and numbered by Krims laid in. Autograph postcard from Photographers Gallery in London to an early customer laid in. Plates fine, light rubbing, creasing and edgewear to original box. Item #13385
