April/May 1970 issue of The Free You, the newsletter of Midpeninsula Free University (MFU), an experimental countercultural free university founded in Menlo Park, California, in 1966. One of the largest organizations of its kind, MFU developed out of the Free Speech and antiwar movements, offering a largely nonhierarchical curriculum spanning radical politics, Eastern religion, psychology, ecology, computing, art, literature, sexuality, and practical skills. As there was no conventional campus, classes were held in homes, storefronts, and community spaces. This issue, produced at a time when the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Union had assumed greater control of the organization and MFU was engaging more explicitly with revolutionary politics, contains pieces by Herbert Marcuse, Ken Kesey, Robert Stone, and a lecture by Baba Ram Dass (Richard Alpert), who was a teacher at MFU at the time.
