Special Collection. 24 Photo Lithos
New York: Congreve Publishing Co., Inc., 1979. 1st Edition. Folio, publisher's stiff plain white wraps, printed attached dust jacket, light gray endpapers.
"Look out, life may be in danger, your wife is imitating art." First edition of legendary German-Australian fashion photographer Newton's third book, featuring his signature coldly clinical fetish photos in vivid oversized black-and-white plates. Subjects include Lisa Taylor, Patti Hansen, Paloma Picasso, Jane Kirby, Jenny Kapitain, and Fiona Lewis shot on location in Paris, Nice, New York, Rome, Berlin, Hollywood, and elsewhere. Many of the photos collected here originally appeared in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Der Spiegel, Playboy, and Oui. Photos captioned to the verso in Newton's facsimile handwriting. Flap text written by avant-gardist Brion Gysin; designed by Bea Feitler, who worked as art director for Harper's Bazaar, Ms. and Vanity Fair; photo of Newton to lower flap by his wife, the photographer Alice Springs. Published simultaneously in hardcover and paperback (as here). Light foxing and fingersoiling to margins of preliminary leaves, light edgewear to attached dust jacket. Very good. Item #13257
