Sex-Appeal. Photographed and Designed by Jurgen Vollmer
New York: Avant Associates, 1976. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.
First edition of German photographer Jürgen Vollmer's collection of homoerotic photography with an introduction by proto-Beat legend William Burroughs. Best known as one of the definitive photographers of the Beatles during their formative Hamburg era in 1960, Vollmer, alongside his friends photographer Astrid Kirchherr and artist Klaus Voormann (the "Exis") contributed to the evolution of the iconic "moptop" hair style and leather-clad aesthetic of the band. Following his time in Hamburg, he moved on to travel reporting, street photography, and a prolific career as a Hollywood unit set photographer. Sex-Appeal collects candid and youthful black-and-white photos of men (with a few shots of women) nude and partially nude that he captured during his travels in Italy, Puerto Rico, New York, and France. Light rubbing, creasing, and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #13218
