Do Not Abandon Me. 2009-10

New York/London: Carolina Nitsch/Hauser & Wirth, 2010. 1st Edition. Large folio, publisher's beige cloth, spine and upper board stamped in oxblood.

Catalog published in conjunction with a collaborative show of work by "bad girl of British art" Tracey Emin and French-American artist Louise Bourgeois, at Carolina Nitsch Gallery, New York, and Hauser & Wirth, London, in 2010-11, from the collection of contemporary art collector Joel Mallin. When Emin wrote a piece about Bourgeois for Parkett magazine, Bourgeois reached out to propose doing a joint project. The result, titled "Do Not Abandon Me," is a collection of sixteen prints by Bourgeois of male and female torsos, with Emin overlaying text, drawings, and miniature figures, and was one of the last of works Bourgeois would create before passing away in 2010 at the age of 98. Illustrated with large-format color plates, and with a black-and-white photo portrait of Bourgeois and Emin by French filmmaker Brigitte Cornand. Laid into this volume is an autograph note on Hauser & Wirth stationary addressed to Joel Mallin from the New York gallery’s longtime director Yuta Nakajima. Mallin and his late wife Sherry are renowned for amassing one of the largest private art collections in North America. One of 1500 unnumbered copies. No dust jacket, as issued. Fine. Item #13193
