Between C and D: Post-Post-Modern Lower East Side Fiction Magazine. Spring/Summer 1989. Volume 5, Number 2

New York: Between C & D, 1989. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's dot-matrix printed fanfold paper with photo-illustrated card mounted to upper wrap, original ephemera inserts, original Ziploc plastic bag.

"SEX. DRUGS. VIOLENCE. DANGER. COMPUTERS." Spring/Summer 1989 issue of the influential LES quarterly literary magazine. Established by novelists Joel Rose and Catherine Texier in 1983, Between C & D published the work of established and emerging writers and artists from the downtown scene throughout the 80s. Named for Rose and Texier’s apartment that also housed the publication’s operations between Avenues C and D (it's also been suggested it stands for "between coke and dope"), the DIY venture was printed on fanfold printer paper on donated Epson dot-matrix printers and distributed in Ziploc bags (reminiscent of drug baggies) and at times included additional small ephemera. Regular contributors included Dennis Cooper, Lynne Tillman, Kathy Acker, Tama Janowitz, David Wojnarowicz, and Anthony Bourdain, whom Rose creatively supported for many years. This issue comprises fiction by Darius James, Texier, Patrick McGrath, John Farris, Lisa Teasley, Pamela Koevoets, Brad Gooch, Lynne Tillman, and Richard Kostelanetz. Tipped-in cover illustration and loose printed cardstock by Joy Lou G. This issue also includes an announcement card for the release of the Between C and D anthology published by Penguin, and an announcement for Rose’s book Kill The Poor. Some rubbing to original Ziploc bag, else fine. Uncommon. Item #13009
