The Feminist Responsibility Project

Glassboro, NJ: Rowan University Art Gallery, 2011. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher’s stapled stiff printed paper wraps, original illustrated dust jacket.

Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of work by American artist Beverly Semmes held at the Rowan University Art Gallery in Glassboro, New Jersey in 2011. Through her ongoing Feminist Responsibility Project, in which she alters pornographic images to question objectification, censorship, and visual consumption, Semmes extends a multidisciplinary practice spanning sculpture, drawing, photography, video, performance, fabric, ceramics, glass, and fashion. The exhibition at Rowan was the first presentation of the project, which took the form of an immersive installation with a white organza and two costumed figures called The Witnesses (respectively named "Bitch" and "Puritan"). Illustrated in black-and-white; with essays by Ingrid Schaffner and Catherine Liu and an exhibition history. Fine in unclipped dust jacket. Item #12971
