Spring 1981 issue of Frederick S. Clarke’s American horror, fantasy, and scifi film magazine, this issue focusing on the films (so far) of David Cronenberg. Established by Clarke in 1967 as a mimeographed fanzine, Cinefantastique was relaunched in 1970 as a glossy quarterly. Clarke, then an undergrad, conceived of the magazine as a critical alternative to more fan-oriented "monster magazines," emphasizing production histories, interviews, reviews, and a scholarly approach to genre cinema. This issue comprises a career overview of and interview with Cronenberg on his early films and the making of Scanners (1981), a feature on Somewhere in Time with director Jeannot Szwarc, an article on scifi typography and special effects title design by Robert and Richard Greenberg, reviews of contemporary fantasy and horror films, and more.
