Noguchi’s Imaginary Landscapes. An Exhibition Organized by Walker Art Center
Minneapolis: Walker Art Center, 1978. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps.
Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of work by Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi, held at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in 1978. Noguchi's prolific career spanned six decades; he was awarded the 1982 Edward MacDowell Medal, and the 1987 National Medal of Arts. His perhaps most iconic work, the Noguchi coffee table, remains in production; he founded the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum in New York City in 1985. Devoted to his lifelong interest in sculpture as a form of landscape, environment, and public space, the show presented numerous sculptures, photo panels, and charts related to gardens, playgrounds, plazas, monuments, stage sets, and architectural settings. Illustrated with black-and-white (and some color) plates; with an introduction by curator Martin Friedman, a chronology, and bibliography. Owner inkstamp to inside of upper wrap. Some rubbing to wraps. Very good. Item #12967
