A Streetcar Named Desire
New York: Limited Editions Club, 1982. Signed Limited Edition. Small folio, publisher's burgundy morocco over hand-printed cloth-covered boards, spine gilt, lilac endpapers, original paperboard slipcase with spine gilt.
Limited fine press edition of Tennessee Williams's landmark play, with a color lithograph frontispiece and six color plates by "King of Caricature" Al Hirschfeld, signed by him on the colophon. Depicting the clash between southern belle Blanche DuBois and her brutish brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski, the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Streetcar Named Desire remains Williams’s most performed play to this day. His name now synonymous with American theater, Hirschfeld produced humorous depictions of Broadway’s biggest players and producers for decades, most prominently for the New York Times where he was a contributor for over seventy years. Limited Editions Club (LEC) produced finely illustrated limited editions of literary classics that were signed by the author, artist, or book designer and issued each year to a small group of subscribers. Includes a foreword by English-American actress Jessica Tandy, who originated the iconic role of Blanche Dubois. With the publisher's prospectus for the volume laid in. Number 1741 of 2000 copies. Light sunning to spine; original paperboard slipcase with light soiling and some edgewear. Overall, very good or better. Item #12940
