Marilyn Minter

London: Nicola Jacobs Gallery, 1989. 1st Edition. Oblong quarto, publisher's stiff illustrated paper wraps.

Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of work by American visual artist Marilyn Minter held at the Nicola Jacobs Gallery in London in 1989. A Louisiana native, Minter first garnered attention in the 1980s and 90s with her large-scale photorealist paintings of women’s bodies, cosmetic rituals, pornography, and food. Interrogating frameworks of female sexuality, fashion, and consumer culture, her slick and sensual images have been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and were included in the Whitney Biennial in 2006. Held shortly before her rise to fame for her "Porn Grid" series, the show presented six enamel-on-canvas paintings in her signature Pop-inspired, photorealistic style. Illustrated in color with full-page plates; with an introduction by American art critic Barry Schwabsky, a biography, exhibition history, and a bibliography. Some toning to waps. Near fine.
