Garden City, NY: Anchor Press/Doubleday, 1978. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's black textured paper over chocolate paper-covered boards, spine gilt, upper board blindstamped, original photo-illustrated dust jacket.

Advance review copy first edition of Black author George Davis’s collection of love stories, inscribed by him to New York Times Book Review editor and scholar of Black American humor Mel Watkins and his partner. A pioneering journalist, Davis was a regular reporter for the Times and Washington Post, and perhaps best known for his Vietnam War novel Coming Home (1972) and his national bestseller Black Life in Corporate America (1982). Drawing from a series of interviews Davis conducted between 1973 and '76, Love, Black Love comprises eighteen love stories that capture Black men and women’s thoughts on romance, family, and relationships. Dust jacket photos by Doubleday art director Alex Gotfryd. Inscribed by Davis to front endpaper: "To Mel & Marge / with love / George / 2/28/78" and with Watkins’s embossed ex-libris stamp. Publisher's review sip laid in. Unclipped dust jacket with minor edgewear, and light toning to verso. Near fine. Item #12890
