STOP. Vol. 2. 1990
New York: Stop Magazine, 1990. Quarto, publisher's photo-illustrated paper wraps.
Second issue of designer, stylist, editor, and former Club Kid Walter Cessna’s short-lived downtown magazine. STOP served as a temporal snapshot of the New York art and fashion scene of the early 1990s, as well as a springboard for emerging contemporary artists. Launching with an issue that included an exclusive interview and fashion editorial with filmmaker Russ Meyer, the publication featured several prominent names before they acquired mainstream success. STOP was also noted for hosting fashion shows at New York nightlife hotspots such as Limelight. (After the magazine folded in 1993, Cessna and stylist Simone Colina launched their own fashion line, Dom Casual. Their most famous piece was a dress cut from stolen American Airlines blankets that prompted the company to issue a cease and desist order.) This issue features Richard Sohl, the founding keyboardist of the Patti Smith Group, on the cover shot by Steven Meisel, with content on or by Meisel, Lisette Model, Keith Haring, Isabel Toledo, Anka Radakovitch, Rene Ricard, Haoui Montaug, R. Crumb, Andre Walker, the Lunachicks, and much more. Illustrated with black-and-white photos, drawings, and reproductions. Some rubbing and light creasing to wraps. Very good. Scarce. Item #12872
