Gucci Galleria
New York: Publistyle International, 1982. 1st Edition. Oblong quarto, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.
Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibit of art objects held at the brand's flagship Fifth Avenue showroom, in 1982, signed by Aldo Gucci. The retail concept was introduced by Aldo, the chairman of the fashion brand and the eldest son of Guccio Gucci, in the late 1970s, opening the Beverly Hills space in 1977 and subsequently New York in 1980. Located on the fourth floor, the private gallery was exclusively for VIP clients, who would be presented with a leather-wrapped brass key to enter, an early example of what has become known as a "brand experience." This catalog, showcasing the gallery’s newly acquired works, includes paintings, sculptures, and other objects from the 16th to mid-20th century, with artists including Alessandro Allori, Cincinnato Baruzzi, de Chirico, de Kooning, Lichtenstein, Modigliani, René Paresce, and others. Illustrated with color photos and reproductions; with an introduction by curator Gaspero del Corso, and brief artist bios. Signed by Gucci beneath his brief preface. Light toning and soiling to wraps. Near fine. Item #12860
