Snapshooters

Boston: A Mouse Press, 1973. 1st Edition. Oblong quarto, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.

Photobook of American photographer and "printer’s printer" Thomas Consilvio’s 1970s series. Consilvio is best known within the photography community as the printer for Garry Winogrand. Upon Winogrand’s death, Consilvio was commissioned to proof and print thousands of film rolls from his legacy, many of them now held in major collections. This self-referential series features black-and-white snapshots of tourists taking pictures of friends and family at landmarks and scenic spots in Italy and the US. Though it bears no ownership markings, the volume is from the collection of photographer Marcia Resnick. Born in Brooklyn, Resnick is best known for chronicling the downtown scene of the 1970s and 80s in real time, taking portraits of musicians, artists, filmmakers, and writers such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Belushi, Iggy Pop, Andy Warhol, and Susan Sontag, and for her regular feature in the SoHo Weekly News, "Resnick’s Believe-It-or-Not." Some rubbing and edgewear. Very good. Uncommon. Item #12840
