Little Caesar #9. "Unprecendented Information"

Los Angeles: Little Caesar, 1979. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.

Issue number 9 of queer cult writer Dennis Cooper’s anarchist, punk-inspired literary journal, dedicated to American poet and publisher Piero Heliczer, with a portrait of him on the cover shot by guest editor Gerard Malanga. Inspired by UK zine Sniffin’ Glue among other underground publications, Cooper established Little Caesar in 1976 as a mimeographed zine for poetry, fiction, art, photography, reviews, and interviews with a wide range of writers, artists, and cultural figures including Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, Nico, Debbie Harry, and Brian Eno. This issue includes several tributes to, reminiscences of, and contributions by Heliczer; as well as poems, prose, and reviews by Cooper, William S. Burroughs, Angus MacLise, John Wieners, Ezra Pound, René Ricard, Clark Coolidge, Charles Olson, Gregory Corso, Anne Waldman, among others; and photos by Malanga, Richard Avedon, Jill Jacobs, Don Snyder, and Marcia Resnick (p.34). (Though it bears no ownership markings, this copy comes from Resnick's personal collection. Resnick was an occasional contributor to the magazine, with several of her "Bad Boy" portraits appearing in other issues.) Illustrated with black-and-white, with drawings by Brion Gysin and Marian Zazeela. Some offsetting to a few pages where inserts have been glued in by the publisher. Some soiling, rubbing and edgewear. Very good. Item #12834
