Je Suis Ein Americano
Los Angeles: Little Caesar, 1979. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher’s stapled stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps, autograph note signed laid in.
Early chapbook by American poet Tim Dlugos, with a signed autograph note on an invitation to a reading by him at the Poetry Project. Associated with the New York School’s later generation and the downtown literary scene around the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church, where he served on the board of directors, Dlugos is known for his conversational poems about friendship, gay life, pop culture, addiction, and politics. He emerged as a defining poet of queer downtown New York before dying of AIDS-related complications in 1990. Published by queer cult writer Dennis Cooper’s Little Caesar Press, an offshoot of his anarchist, punk-inspired literary journal of the same name, this collection comprises poems and prose pieces written in the late 1970s. Cover photo by writer, social psychologist, and AIDS activist Richard Elovich. The autograph note is to writer Eric Lerner, thanking him for his review of his 1982 collection Entre Nous, also published by Little Caesar ("It's the first review that’s appeared, so I’m especially happy it’s such a perceptive one.") Moderate soiling and some toning and edgewear to wraps. Good. Item #12818
