The Paper Snake

Los Angeles: Siglio, 2014. Reprint Edition. Oblong quarto, publisher's illustrated paper covered boards, gray and blue endpapers, original illustrated dust jacket.

Facsimile reprint edition of Fluxus poet and artist Dick Higgins's collection of mail art from Ray Johnson, originally published by Higgins's Something Else Press in 1965. Johnson was primarily known as a correspondence and mail artist, founding the still active network the New York Correspondence School. "Well, I shouldn't call myselt a poet but other people have. What I do is classify the words as poetry...So when [The Paper Snake] appeared, the book stated, 'Ray Johnson is a poet,' but I never said, 'this is a poem,' I simply wrote what I wrote and it later was classified" (from a 1977 interview with Johnson). Includes introductory essay by Frances F. L. Beatty, Director of the Ray Johnson Estate, as a separate folded insert. One of 1840 copies. Fine in unclipped dust jacket. Item #12775
