Item #12772 Saint at Large New Year's Eve 1992. Mark Wahlberg, Lynn Goldsmith, photographer.

Saint at Large New Year's Eve 1992. [Poster]

New York: 1991. Vintage color photo-illustrated poster (measures 20" x 28").

Vintage poster for a New Year’s Eve party with a live performance by Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg, organized by The Saint at Large. The Saint, often referred to as the "Vatican of Disco," was a legendary gay members-only nightclub housed in the former Fillmore East theater. Established in 1980 by Bruce Mailman, it ran for eight years, with its legacy continuing through The Saint At Large, which has hosted high-production circuit parties since the club's closure, making it the the longest running queer event worldwide. While Wahlberg’s past is marked by alleged acts of homophobia, he was nevertheless a gay sex icon, ignited by his iconic 1992 Calvin Klein underwear campaign with Kate Moss and his Marky Mark persona, which featured him frequently flaunting his bodybuilder’s physique, as demonstrated in this photo captured by Lynn Goldsmith, one of the first female rock-and-roll photographers. The event also announces the acquisition of Tunnel by nightlife impresario and "King of Clubs" Peter Gatien (also of Limelight and Club USA), who famously transformed the space into a labyrinthine pleasure hub frequented by Club Kids in the 1990s. Fold creases from having been issued folded in eights, light creasing and edgewear, faint abrasions to verso from cellotape removal. Very good. Item #12772
