Montgomery Clift. [Vintage Press Photo for Suddenly Last Summer]
Los Angeles: Columbia Pictures Corporation, 1959. Vintage glossy black-and-white photo (measures 8" x 10"), typed label mounted to verso.
Vintage black-and-white publicity photo of original Hollywood heartthrob Montgomery Clift for Suddenly, Last Summer (1959). Adapted from Tennessee Williams’s play by director Joseph L. Mankiewicz, the film features Clift as Dr. John Cukrowicz (a role originally considered for James Dean prior to his death), a neurosurgeon enlisted to assess the mental state of a young woman (Elizabeth Taylor) whose testimony threatens to expose a family scandal. the film was produced at a moment of personal and professional instability for Clift, following his 1956 car accident; his performance was highly praised by critics who noted the restraint and sensitivity he brought to the role, and that the facial injuries Clift still bore contributed to the subdued quality of his screen presence. Some creasing, fingersoiling and edgewear. Very good. Item #12761
