Idols
New York: SeaHorse Press, 1979. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's stiff illustrated paper wraps.
First edition of queer cult writer Dennis Cooper’s early poetry collection, published by gay lit movement mainstay Felice Picano’s Sea Horse Press. Written during Cooper's tenure publishing his anarchist, punk-inspired literary journal Little Caesar amid the pre-AIDS gay underground scene, Idols comprises poems written in fragmentary verse foregrounding obsession, idolization, and explicit homoerotic fantasy. The collection is noted for introducing Cooper’s preoccupation with sex, violence, and youth that would define his later fiction. Cover illustration by David Martin. Some toning, rubbing, and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #12742
