Just a Gigolo. [Poster]

Paris: SPADEM (Société de la Propriété Artistique et des Dessins et Modèles), 1978. Vintage color illustrated poster (measures 26.5" x 19").

Vintage French movie poster designed by French production designer Michel Landi for the 1978 West German drama Just a Gigolo, starring David Bowie. Set in 1920s Berlin, the film centers on World War I veteran Paul von Przygodski (Bowie) who reluctantly becomes a gigolo at a brothel managed by Baroness von Semering (Marlene Dietrich). The film was famously panned by critics and audiences, leading to Bowie referring to the film as "my 32 Elvis Presley movies rolled into one" in an interview with NME. Notably, it was Dietrich’s last on-screen appearance, and while she was eclipsed by the rock legend, her role in the film is considered an apt bookend to her career. Horizontal and vertical fold creases from having been folded in fours. Pinholes to corners, light creasing and edgewear. Very good. Item #12694
