Points In Time

London: Peter Owen, 1982. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher’s chocolate cloth, spine stamped in silver, cartographic endpapers, original illustrated dust jacket.

First edition of American expatriate writer, translator, and composer Paul Bowles’s collection of prose pieces centered on Morocco, written after his 1947 relocation to Tangier, the city that became his lifelong home. Composed of brief, impressionistic vignettes rather than conventional stories, Points in Time moves across various historical moments and locations, condensing episodes from Moroccan history, folklore, and daily life into atmospheric sketches. Dust jacket designed by Keith Cunningham. Gift inscription to verso of front endpaper from American makeup artist Way Bandy with a drawing of a heart. Known for his "heavy yet clean" look, Bandy worked with the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Farrah Fawcett, Cher, Donna Summers, and Barbara Streisand. Inscribed "To Michael / with love," presumably Bandy's romantic partner Michael Gardine, writer and antiques dealer. Top corners gently bumped, else fine in unclipped dust jacket. Item #12605
