Marisa Berenson. A Life In Pictures

New York: Rizzoli, 2011. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's photo-illustrated paper-covered boards, upper board stamped in black, photo-illustrated endpapers, original attached black silk ribbon bookmark.

First edition of American actress and model Marisa Berenson’s visual biography, inscribed by her to celebrity hairstylist and beauty industry pioneer Maury Hopson. Discovered by Diana Vreeland at a society ball (despite having been rejected by Eileen Ford), Berenson quickly became a top model in the late 1960s with frequent appearances in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Dubbed an "It Girl" by Yves Saint Laurent, she soon took up acting, starring in a series of hits in the early 1970s, including Death in Venice, Cabaret, and Barry Lyndon. This pictorial memoir comprises scores of photos of the original muse by the likes of Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, David Bailey, Norman Parkinson, Hiro, Robert Mapplethorpe, and her close friend (and the book’s editor) Steven Meisel. Inscribed by Berenson in black marker to the title page: "To Maury / So many fond memories – / Love Marisa." Hairstylist Maury Hopson made his break in the 1960s working for the renowned Mr. Kenneth (Kenneth Battelle), considered the first celebrity hair dresser. He left the salon to become a freelance stylist in 1965, embarking on what would become a multi-decade career. He worked closely with Berenson, Elizabeth Taylor (he was a key member of her "glam squad" along with photographer Francesco Scavullo and makeup artist Way Bandy), Sigourney Weaver, Christie Brinkley, and Cheryl Tiegs, among many others. Illustrated with color and black-and-white photos and reproductions. First printing with complete number row to copyright page. No dust jacket, as issued. Original price sticker to lower board. Minor soiling and edgewear. Near fine. Item #12576
