Joseph Beuys Richkräfte
Berlin: Nationalgalerie Berlin, 1977. 1st Edition. Small slim folio, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.
Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of work by leading German Fluxus artist Joseph Beuys held at Berlin’s Nationalgalerie, in 1977. One of the most significant artists of the postwar period, Beuys, who famously declared "everyone is an artist," frequently used felt and fat in his sculptures and viewed art as a tool for social transformation. Curated when Beuys had recently cemented his reputation as German’s best known living artist, the show presented the gallery’s then-recently acquired piece "Richtkräfte," a major installation of 100 chalk-covered blackboards, easels, and other objects that Beuys had drawn on and manipulated during a four-week performance at ICA London. Illustrated with black-and-white photos of the installation process; with a foreword by gallery director Dieter Honisch and an essay by Greek-born German curator Christos M. Joachimides. Text in German. Minor edgewear to wraps, else fine. Item #12530
