Lesbian In Retreat

Fresno, CA: Saber Books, 1965. 1st Edition. 12mo, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps.

Mid-1960s lesbian pulp concerning Kathy Ward, a young woman experiencing ambivalence regarding her newfound lesbianism, published by one of failed writer-turned-publisher Sanford Aday’s numerous publishing outfits. While many lesbian pulp novels of the 1950s and 60s were sensationalized by and for straight men, they inadvertently offered representation for closeted lesbian readers. Aday infamously drew the ire of morality groups such as Charles H. Keating’s Citizens for Decent Literature and was later convicted on obscenity charges (subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court). Publisher's catalog number SA-93. Shelf label to spine. Light soiling and minor edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #12389
