Brazil. [Press Kit]

Los Angeles: Universal Studios, 1985. Quarto, publisher's printed paper folder, thirteen stapled mimeograph press releases (44 pages), nine glossy black-and-white photos (measuring 8" x 10").

Press kit for British filmmaker and Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam’s 1985 dystopian scifi comedy. Inspired by Orwell’s 1984 (although Gilliam admitted to never having read the book), the work of Kafka, and Margaret Thatcher's neoliberal regime, the film centers on Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce), a low-ranking technocrat who is attempting to find the damsel in distress (Kim Greist) he fantasizes about saving in his daydreams. Co-starring Robert De Niro, Katherine Helmond, Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins, Michael Palin, Ian Richardson, and Peter Vaughan, Brazil is considered among the greatest British films of all time, and prescient of the accelerated information age and contemporary surveillance state. This press kit includes nine black-and-white film stills and behind-the-scenes photos, and thirteen stapled mimeograph press releases totaling 44 pages of production notes and cast and crew bios, housed in the original folder from the film’s producer, Universal Studios. Photos fine, occasional toning and edgewear to press releases, original folder with some soiling and edgewear. Very good overall. Item #12164
