CrumbWrap. Giftwrap Paper Designed by Robert Crumb

Northampton, MA: Kitchen Sink Press, 1994. 4 large folding color-illustrated sheets housed in publisher's original illustrated cardstock portfolio (sheets measure 18" x 24" open).

Holiday wrapping paper featuring designs by counterculture comix artist Robert Crumb. Emerging in the late 1960s with the raunchy and revered Zap Comix, Crumb went on to become a commercially successful artist, largely attributable to his album cover designs. By the 90s, his work was accepted by the fine art world, leading to a series of mainstream projects and merchandise. This set contains four different sheets, one illustrated with an "expressionistic" design and the other three featuring Crumb’s quintessential characters: the mystic guru Mr. Natural, his sidekick Flakey Floont, and his lover Devil Girl; the adorable and debaucherous Bearzie-Wearzies; and "pornomancer" Fritz the Cat, Crumb’s most iconic protagonist. A foundational figure in American underground comics, publisher Denis Kitchen founded Kitchen Sink Press in 1970, best known for publishing "Gay Comix," one of the first comix to feature openly queer creators. Light edgewear to original portfolio, else fine. Item #12136
