Megastars Magazine Presents Boy George and Culture Club. Fall 1984
New York: Celeb Publishing Inc., 1984. Quarto, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated paper wraps.
Fan magazine for Culture Club and charismatic frontman Boy George. Named for its multi-racial, multi-confessional, multi-amorous personnel, Culture Club emerged in the glam-infused New Romantic club scene in London in the early 1980s, with George (formerly Lieutenant Lush) fusing the styles of influences Siouxsie Sioux and Leigh Bowery into his own signature androgynous look. Their third single, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," was a smash hit, earning them their first number one record, with the music video going into heavy rotation amid MTV's ascendency, simultaneously assuring and fueling the band's controversial visibility. This special issue of Megastars Magazine includes biographical info on George and a chronicle of the band’s rise to fame, alongside content on Michael Jackson, Prince, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, Missing Persons, among major acts from the era. Illustrated in black-and-white, with two large fold-out posters in color stapled in. Some rubbing and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #12000
