New York: Frieze, 1997. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's photo-illustrated paper-covered boards, photo-illustrated endpapers.
"Judging by what we had just seen, Andy Warhol was not only dead, he might never have lived. 'Yeah,' I said 'but Billy Name is alive and well.'" Inscribed first edition monograph of Billy Name’s photos from 1968 of Andy Warhol’s Factory. While Billy Name is no longer 'alive and well,' his identity still remains intrinsically linked to Warhol through his work as the Factory’s archivist. Born William Linich, he began going by Billy Name as he became a core member of Warhol's superstars - a clique of New York creatives Warhol used in his work. Illustrated with 77 color plates; with an essay by art critic Dave Hickey and an interview between Name and fashion photographer Collier Schorr. Inscribed in silver marker to the half-title: "For RR / My buddy & easthetic [sic] pal / xoxox / Billy Name / 10/97." "RR" was Robert Rubin, a culture and nightlife reporter who co-edited Anton Perich's giant tabloid magazine Night. With publisher's advance review sheet and publication party invite laid in. No dust jacket, as issued. Fine. Item #11654
