The Secret Doctrine: The Synthesis of Science, Religion, and Philosophy
Pasadena, CA: Theosophical University Press, 1999. Reprint Edition. 2 vols., octavo, publisher's stiff printed paper wraps.
Facsimile edition of Russian occultist and philosopher Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s 1888 masterwork. One of the most influential and controversial figures of the 19th century, Blavatsky travelled extensively throughout her early life, developing an interest in the mystical and esoteric. She became involved in the Spiritualist movement in the early 1870s, and emigrated to New York to co-found the Theosophical Society in 1875. Blavatsky remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, with many of her stories, writings, and teachings having been revealed to be inconsistent and often plagiarized (she claimed to possess "extraordinary psychic powers" that helped her write). However, she continues to be rightly considered the "Godmother of the New Age." With indexes. Minor rubbing to wraps, else fine. Item #11594
