Dick Higgins. Lecture. Something Else Press and Since

Purchase, NY: [SUNY Purchase], 1981. Card-stock two-color illustrated poster (measures 10" x 12").

Poster promoting a lecture by Dick Higgins on his influential experimental publishing venture Something Else Press, at SUNY Purchase’s Perception Lab for their Visiting Artist Lecture Series, in 1981. An artist, composer, theorist, and Fluxus co-founder, Higgins became a publisher when he established Something Else (the name was thought up by his wife, the artist Alison Knowles) in 1963. Issuing avant-garde "intermedia" books and pamphlets into the mid-70s, his small enterprise published works by Gertrude Stein, Marshall McLuhan, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Claes Oldenburg, Ray Johnson, La Monte Young, George Brecht, and Emmett Williams, along with an early, now seminal collection of concrete poetry. Shuttering in 1973, Something Else’s decade run featured a total of 64 titles. Fine. Item #11315
