For All That I Found There

New York: Gerald Duckworth & Co Ltd, 1973. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher’s gray cloth, spine gilt, original photo-illustrated dust jacket.

First edition of novelist, socialist, and "dangerous muse" Caroline Blackwood’s debut book. Hailing from an aristocratic Anglo-Irish family (she was heiress to the Guinness fortune), Blackwood gained fame for her flamboyantly bohemian lifestyle and her tumultuous marriages to the painter Lucian Freud (she features in his portrait "Girl in Bed"), pianist and composer Israel Citkowitz, and poet Robert Lowell. While with Lowell in the 1970s, Blackwood began to pursue writing as a career and with his encouragement published this collection. Taking its title from a line in the Percy French song "The Mountains of Mourne," the work comprises stories and essays separated under the headings of Fact, Fiction, and Ulster, and includes a short memoir about growing up in Northern Ireland. Unclipped dust jacket with minor toning, else fine. Item #11302
