New York: Walker and Company, 1968. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's brown cloth, spine and boards stamped in black, illustrated endpapers, original illustrated dust jacket.

First edition of British illustrator, painter, and sculptor Juliet Kepes’s picture book, inscribed by her with an original drawing. The wife of Hungarian painter and photographer György Kepes, Julliet trained at the New Bauhaus (Chicago Institute of Design), and is best known for her children’s books and for the playroom environment she created for her daughter that was famously featured in Life magazine. Published under the auspices of the Department of Printing and Graphic Arts of Harvard College Library, this book comprises Kepes's sumi ink brush drawings of birds, a recurrent motif in her oeuvre, alongside poetic one-liners. Illustrated in black-and-white; with an introduction by curator and librarian Philip Hofer. Inscribed to half-title: "for the family Morton / from Juliet," and accompanied by a hand drawn illustration of a bird in marker. Unclipped dust jacket with some rubbing and edgewear, including a few small nicks and chips. Very good. Item #11170
