"The damndest thing you ever saw." One-sheet poster for the release of Robert Altman’s 1975 epic. A critically acclaimed ensemble drama and landmark in American cinema, Nashville features a sprawling cast of twenty-four characters over the course of five days leading up to a political rally in Tennessee. Starring Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall, Ronee Blakley, Ned Beatty, Lily Tomlin, Michael Murphy, Bert Jensen and a 21-year-old Jeff Goldbum, the film is widely considered Altman’s masterpiece. Having previously worked with Altman on McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) and Thieves Like Us (1974), screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury proposed the idea of a Nashville-set film in 1973, with Altman putting her on assignment to observe the city. While there she kept a travel journal that became the blueprint for the screenplay, with much of the dialogue improvised, true to his anecdotal style. A critical and commercial success that continues to be prescient of American politics, the film garnered five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, with Tewkesbury earning a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay. Issued as 75/161. Fold lines from being folded in eights. Light rubbing and soiling. Very good. Item #10989
