First issue of Elein Fleiss's Parisian literary and photography zine. Begun as a companion to Purple Prose, a high-brow riposte to the glitz and glam 1980s, Purple Fiction was conceived of by Fleiss with the aid of art critic Jeff Rian and Olivier Zahm, her collaborator on many Purple projects. It ran for a total of five issues between 1995 and 1998. This inaugural installment comprises contributions from Rian, French artists Martine Aballéa and Dominique Gonzales-Foerster, Greek artist Miltos Manetas, American photographer Leah Singer and her husband Sonic Youth co-founder Lee Ranaldo, and others.
