Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of work by American poet-photographer Thomas Roma held at MoMA in 1996. Inspired by a desire "to make religious pictures for modern times," Roma attended more than 150 services in Black churches throughout his native Brooklyn between 1991 and '94. Come Sunday was Roma’s first solo exhibition. Illustrated with 87 black-and-white plates; with an essay by literary critic and historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. ("If it is true that God is in the details, then Roma has shown us God's many guises”) and an afterword by chief curator of MoMA’s Department of Photography Peter Galassi.
