Clavé. Sculptor
Barcelona: Ediciones Polígrafa, 1990. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's speckled light gray buckram, spine stamped in black, original photo-illustrated dust jacket.
First edition monograph on Spanish avant-gardist Antoni Clavé by journalist and friend of the artist Lluís Permanyer. One of Spain’s most celebrated artists, Clavé worked as a poster designer, painter, printmaker, stage and costume designer, and sculptor. While he is primarily known for other aspects of his oeuvre, he was a disciple of Àngel Ferrant and intermittently worked in sculpture from 1939 until the 1990s. His most prominent period in the medium was in the 50s and 60s, during which he created bas-reliefs, assemblages, and totem-like sculptures rendered from wood, imprinted lead, and found objects. Illustrated with color and black-and-white plates; with biography, bibliography, and an exhibition checklist. Translated from the Spanish by Joanna Martínez. Unclipped dust jacket with light edgewear. Very good. Item #10303
