George Wayne's R.O.M.E.. Archive 2025
New York: George Wayne, 2024. Large folio, publisher's stiff illustrated paper wraps.
U.P.D.A.T.E.: After a 25-year hiatus, George Wayne's R.O.M.E. is back and serving a fresh cup of tea! G.W., who has written for Interview, Allure, and Vanity Fair (where his "G.W. Q&As" were a must-read thanks to his frank questions and acerbic wit), launched his low-tech fanzine in 1986. At the time it was an unprecedented synthesis of New York culture, fashion, music, and style, with a heavily queer-centric emphasis on insider interviews and profiles, and quickly developed a devout readership. Each issue, published irregularly and originally produced primarily by photocopier, featured A-lister scandal stories, party and event rundowns, candid celebrity photos, art world coverage, "hot or tired" and "in or out" columns, fashion ads and editorials, gossip ("sus"), and much more. While the mag’s name has remained a mystery, Wayne admitted to the New York Times that "It really doesn't mean anything." Newly relaunched with this Archive 2025 "Guerilla Edition" – bigger, brasher, and better than ever – the mag is available exclusively at Left Bank Books and Chateau Marmont. Very limited. Item #10256
