Original signed and dated poster published in conjunction with legendary Arizona photographer Jay Dusard’s 1983 monograph. Raised on a southern Illinois farm, Dusard became acquainted with the American west while traveling across the US on a travel scholarship for architecture in the 1950s. In 1965, he left his short-lived career as a cartographer and architect to move to Tuscon, where he studied photography with Frederick Sommer. The product of a 1981 Guggenheim Fellowship, The North American Cowboy comprised portraits taken with an 8 x 10-inch view camera over a period of two years, in which Dusard traveled 25,000 miles on horseback visitng ranches in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
