"The afternoon lasts forever." First standalone printing of this prose poem by towering 20th century American poet John Ashbery. Collected in the the volume April Galleons published the same year, the piece is regarded as an allegory for global warming, emblematic of the environmental concerns prevalent in the mid-1980s. It was issued as number 8 in art critic Raymond Foye and Italian painter Francesco Clemente's Hanuman Books series. Founded in 1986, the small press, whose administrative and editorial functions were housed in the Chelsea Hotel, produced their series of small handmade books in Madras, India.
