The Talisman

New York: Viking, 1984. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's red cloth over black paper-covered boards, spine gilt, original illustrated dust jacket.

"Everything goes away, Jack Sawyer, like the moon. Everything comes back, like the moon." First edition of horror masters Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 co-written opus. The novel tells the story of Jack Sawyer (shades of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn) as he embarks on an epic journey across the US, wavering between reality and a medieval alternate dimension in search of a talisman that could save his mother who is dying from cancer. In 2001, the sequel Black House was published, and while Straub has since died King has said a third and final installment to the story is still in the works The Talisman began when King and Straub met in 1977 after the former had moved to London with his family. Once Straub moved to the US, they officially began the collaboration, working side by side for the first few pages and subsequently mailing the manuscript back and forth. Dust jacket designed by Neil Stuart. Minor dulling to spine gilt; unclipped dust jacket with some chipping to spine-ends and light edgewear. Very good. Item #8840
