La Fondation Jean Dubuffet

Paris: Fondation Jean Dubuffet, 1984. 1st Edition. Oblong octavo, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.

Catalog produced by the Jean Dubuffet foundation in 1984, one year before the French sculptor and painter’s death. Known for his distinctive style that rejected traditional artistic conventions, Dubuffet championed Art Brut, a term he coined to describe work produced by self-taught artists, such as psychiatric patients, prisoners, and children. Established in 1973, the foundation is home to all Dubuffet’s original work and personal archives including plans, drawings, models, gouaches, prints, manuscripts, notes, and other documents. The main and largest collection is located in Périgny-sur-Yerres, home to his monumental sculptural work La Closerie Falbala, a walled garden surrounding Le Cabinet Logologique, a meditation villa. This catalog comprises information on the foundation with descriptions of his works, several images of his projects, and a map of the Périgny-sur-Yerres location. Illustrated in color and black-and-white. Text in French. Light edgewear, else fine. Item #8612
