Trailer Tramp

Trailer Tramp

New York: Universal Publishing/A Beacon Book, 1957. 1st Edition. 12mo, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps, edges stained red.

Late 1950s trailer trash sleaze penned by the legendarily prolific Orrie Hitt. Dubbed the "Shakespeare of Shabby Street," Hitt authored over 150 books and was known for his unusually ethically aware and often uplifting pulp prose. Originating from Universal Distribution's digest publications, Beacon Books is considered the first exclusively sleaze paperback publisher, established when there was high demand for disposable thrills in the wake of the 1954 Gathings Committee's critique of lurid cover art in mainstream paperback houses (Pocketbooks, Popular Library, Avon, and Bantam). Cover illustration by George Geygan. Issued as B153. P.184/185 with marginal damage. Some creasing and rubbing to wraps. Very good. Item #8607
